Football, Winning & Team spirit

I had voted for Germany to win. my logic was that it was their home ground and the spectators being a majority would inspire them to win plus the referees might be a bit partial too. But tonight it is going to be a battle between France and Italy.
-
Watching these world cup mtaches reminded me of the football match when we were at school. must have been 12 or 13 years old. we had this match and had to win.
-
The other team were the favourites and were better players than us. We relied more on our spectator support and the whole class students had come to cheer us. The match begun and we gave a good fight, but by half time we were two goals down. We could only defend as the other team was strong and on the strike.
-
After half time, more encouraging words... we started with full force and shot two goals and levelled the score. We were on the offensive the ball was always in their half. The game was going the way we had dreamed of.
-
We were pretty confident of winning when the referee(school PET) stopped the game. He got everyone playing to the middle of the ground and got a count of the players in each team. The opposition team had 11 players while our team had 21 players in it playing with full vigour.
-
I was surprised to see quite a few of my friends who were cheering in the ground. The game was awarded to the other team as we were unfair according to him. but we felt that the team spiri (to win) took over us. We lost the game but as friends we stood together with one aim - to win.
-
I feel Italy might win tomorrow but watch out there might be more than 11 players playing, for the country :)

Happy Birthday America

To all my American friends and friends living in America

Wish you all the best :)

Konakkai (Crooked Hand)

When i was young one of my pet names my mother used to call me was konakkai (crooked hands). i could not take anything from one place to another without spilling.... or dropping it down.

When i think about it realise that my hand did not coordinate with my brain and did things of its own. it was as if it had a mind of its own.

Even nowadays the key would be in my hand and my brain keeping track of it. All of a sudden the key would be missing. the brain would go crazy trying to find it.

Whatever crooked or forgetful my hands are they are hardworking and earn my daily wages

i envy people who have artistic hands or talented hands like the snaps below....

Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole. ~Roger Caras

Our dog Scooby died today. He was not feeling well for a few days. My wife and kids took him to the vet but he did not make it. Everyone is a bit upset and so am I. He was a very happy and active dog. The cats are happy though.
It is as if we have lost a family member :(

Fear of darkness and shadows

When we were kids there were not much of computers nor many tv channels or video games. We usually invented our own games and being 3 boys (along with the neighbourhood boys)it was always very competitive and tough. One game we invented for a rainy day was the dark room game(usually played in the night). We had a small room (10'X10') with windows on two sides. We would close all thw windows and doors, switch off the lights and one person has to find the boys inside the room.

We had a couple of sofas in the room, and armed with a lot of pillows which we would throw on the catcher. Even if someone was caught had to find out who it was and usually we gave them a pinch. the guy usually moved to another place inside the room bearing the pain and without giving a sound.

This game was lots of fun plus it helped us hone our sense of vision, hearing and touch. It was my turn one day and i had caught all of them except my elder brother. i searched for the usual places could not find him. i sat down in a corner waiting for him to move, but my patience ran out. finally i told him i lost and switched on the light. There he was hanging from the ceiling fan like a bat.

Even today when we gather at his house for a get together we play the dark room game with all the kids in one of his room, more bigger, darker and i tell them how i lost the game because he was hanging from the fan.

You know what my daughter said when she is the catcher the first thing when she enters the dark room will be to switch on the ceiling fan :)

One fact is this game has helped the kids to overcome their fear of darkness
